Now, visiting Montreal
Feels great to be a tourist in Montreal! After living here for close to ten years, I moved somewhere else and never returned for at least four years. I left behind family and friends, colleagues and neighbours, heading for a new challenge. Back then, I needed a fresh start.
I needed to make tabula rasa and rediscover myself.
Being back in Montreal, as a tourist, this time, I am enjoying all the great things this city has to offer. When I was here, my schedule was very tight and I did not have a lot of time to go around.
Now, I am pleased to rediscover my former neighbourhoods and meet old friends. It really feels like a vacation. I’m loving it!
Especially when I see how pressed others are, and how I am free of any formal string. Today I wandered on the streets for almost six hours. I covered almost all the downtown area. I would have walked more, but it started to rain.
While I was strolling down the streets, I noted that few things changed since I left. New parks appeared and a lot of new condo buildings were built. I guess the condo business is booming, as there’s a new building coming of each second or third street.
Everyone is buying condos and the price went up drastically. I saw that Griffintown and Charlevoix neighbourhoods are coming up as well. They look far more cleaner and safer than what they used to be, back in the days when I was living there.
Seeing how pricey these new condos are, I wonder how people manage to buy them. It makes no sense, for me at least, to pay half of million dollar of a condo on the Canal Lachine. Or anywhere else. Half of million means a lot of money. And for this price, you can get a two bedroom condo only! It’s insane.
For the same amount, you can purchase an estate within the country and even abroad, with villa with four or even more bedroom, surrounded by a big lot. As you probably guessed by now, I was never a fan of paying maintenance fees for a condo until the end of days.
Taking a loan or having a private mortgage montreal for a twenty years doesn’t attract me in any way. It may be appealing to others, but not to me!
